As reported on Monday by ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, assuming the NHL is able to resume play, the planned course of action is to skip the remainder of the regular season and jump right into the 2019-20 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

This would prove to be a drastic change in stance from April, when the NHL specified their intent to finish the regular season before heading into the playoffs.

Wyshynski reported last week that a 24-team playoff format has been gaining traction around the NHL, and could serve a possible platform for returning to play and crowning a Stanley Cup Champion.

The NHL suspended it's 2019-20 season on March 12th, amid the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. At the time of suspension there were 189 regular season games remaining.

If the regular season is ended in its current state, the Boston Bruins would finish in 1st place, winning the President's trophy, with the Capitals, Blues and Golden Knights all finishing 1st among their respective divisions.
