de Haan is a former 12th overall pick of the New York Islanders in 2009. The 31-year-old is a veteran of 520 regular season NHL games (19 G, 100A) and another 37 in the playoffs (1G, 4A).
de Haan was at Carolina's training camp on a professional tryout deal.
