NHL 2020 draft to be held online
Per Elliotte Friedman, the NHL draft will no longer take place in Montreal this year. Speaking with the NHL Network today, Friedman confirmed that the draft will instead take place online.
This won't come as a surprise to anyone, as the draft is scheduled to take place in late June. It appears the NHL will take a page out of the NFL's book, as they just held their draft online last week and it turned out to be a big success. This will certainly be a different experience than normal, but by all means should still be well worth watching.
Friedman also went on to mention that the league will make this up to the Canadiens and its fans by giving the team a draft next year or the year after that. The only reason they may not be given next year's draft is due to the fact the league was hoping to host it in Seattle to help build anticipation for the expansion team playing out of Seattle to begin the 2021-22 season.
