Former NHLer Drops Opponent in One Punch in KHL Fight
Vladislav Kamenev was a second-round selection of the Nashville Predators who now plays for CSKA Moscow in the KHL. The 6-foot power forward started his career in North America on a very positive note, scoring 37 points in 57 AHL games (53 point pace per 82) for the Milwaukee Admirals in his first season. In his second season, he continued to rack up points in the A, tallying 51 points in 70 games (60 point pace per 82) and adding 59 PIMs to boot.
It looked as though Kamenev would eventually earn full-time NHL consideration, alas that would never pan out for the Russian forward. The Predators would trade Kamenev, a guy named Sam Girard, and a draft pick to Colorado in a three-way trade that netted Nashville Kyle Turris, who just announced his retirement. In 66 NHL games, Kamenev scored just 13 points and 20 PIMs. So far this season for CSKA Moscow, he has 18 points and 21 PIMs in 27 games. Five of which, came when he absolutely cooked an opponent in a fight with a nasty uppercut:
There is something super satisfying watching someone challenge another to a fight and eating a knuckle sandwich. Not that I condone violence or anything...
Kamenev hasn't been able to duplicate his AHL scoring totals, but he's got a mean right hand. Which ought to earn him at least a couple of bucks over in Russia. And to his opponent -- who should probably just retire after this -- I say:
