After a dispute that lasted all season, defenceman Dustin Byfuglien and the Winnipeg Jets have come to an agreement to terminate his contract with the team, the NHL announced Friday.

Byfuglien had not suited up for a game for the Jets this season, following an off-season procedure and a dispute with the team over his health. With the termination, the team and Byfuglien have settled the grievance he filed against them.

In 528 games with the Jets, the 35-year-old had 102 goals and 363 points across eight seasons. He would have been in the fourth year of a five-year, $38 million deal he signed with the Jets in 2016.

With the season on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Byfuglien would become a free agent and could sign with any team this season or next.
