There was awful news put out this morning, as it was reported that Edmonton Oilers forward Colby Cave passed away at the young age of 25. During the last few days there have been plenty of stories from current and fellow teammates as well as media that spoke on how great of a person Cave was. However, there was one story in particular that really showed just how classy this young man was.

During this 2019-20 season, Cave's time was spent between the Oilers and the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL. In mid-October, while playing for the Condors, Cave found himself squaring up in a fight with Stockton Heat forward Martin Pospisil in the first period. The fight turned ugly as Cave caught Pospisil with a heavy punch and appeared to knock the Flames prospect unconscious.

Thankfully, Pospisil ended up being okay. The next morning, he shared just how special of a guy Cave was.

“What a great guy,” Pospisil wrote on Twitter. “I don't remember anything what happened last night…so that's good. Looking forward for rematch.”

Stories like this make the news today that much more devastating. Cave had an extremely bright future ahead of him. The young forward had 23 points in 44 games with the Condors this season and one goal in eleven games with the Oilers. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Emily and the rest of his family during this extremely difficult time.
