New York Rangers Name Captain for 2022-23
Spending an entire season without a captain is kind of a jabroni move, in my opinion. I've always disliked when coaches opt to not name one, just never sat right with me. Per Kevin Weekes, the New York Rangers, who spent all of 2021-22 without one, are naming Jacob Trouba their next captain:
Trouba has made a name for himself, dropping some massive hits over the past few seasons. Much like Scott Stevens and the hated New Jersey Devils of old, Gerard Gallant opted to promote a big, punishing defenseman to captain, which is a smart move.
Although, many question if Trouba is the guy. One thing it does for sure, though, is make his large $8 million cap-hit easier to stomach. Just months after falling in the Eastern Conference Final, the Rangers have a new captain and a new outlook heading into 2022-23.
