Hayley Wickenheiser, widely considered the best female hockey player of all time, is reaching out to fans in a search of protective equipment for medical staff on the front-lines of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Toronto area.

"After desperate pleas from my front line friends in Toronto, I have decided to put an ask out. These items are not for my use at all. I'm not seeking cash, rather these items: 1350 N95 (68 boxes), 13,500 surgical masks (135 boxes), 13,500 gloves (135 boxes), 1,350 chemo gowns," Wickenheiser posted to Twitter.

"If you are a business or person in Toronto and you can help, I will personally pick up these items myself with proper distancing and PPE. I don't have much to offer in return, maybe a signed jersey, a smile and guaranteed good Karma. If you can help email: [email protected]."

Ontario has been one of the hardest hit provinces in Canada by the Coronavirus. As of the time of this writing, it has recorded over 4,000 cases of COVID-19, including almost 120 deaths. There are more than 500 people in the hospital with COVID-19 in Ontario, including 200 in intensive care and more than 150 on a ventilator.

Wickenheiser's request appeared to be gaining traction with a few people offering the supplies they had.
