Earlier today, Hockey Canada released a statement revealing a new set of sexual assault allegations facing their World Junior program; this time involving the 2003 group. TSN's Rick Westhead reports that Halifax Police is launching a criminal investigation into the allegations.

The allegations are disturbing in nature & implicate over 'half a dozen' members of the 2003 Canadian World Junior team. According to Westhead, three separate sources corroborated the same story; a story in which more than half a dozen players took turns having nonconsensual sex with a naked, unresponsive woman atop a pool table during the tournament.

Hockey Canada released a full statement on the matter, suggesting they were unable to learn the details of the story before being contacted by media. Part of their statement reads:

"We believe the alleged incident from 2003 should be investigated by the authorities, and we urge the police to open an investigation into this disturbing situation,» Hockey Canada wrote in the statement. «Hockey Canada will cooperate with and support the authorities in every way we can, and we once again urge anyone who may have relevant information about this alleged incident to contact Halifax police immediately."

The National Hockey League was also briefed on the situation and has released the following statement:

"We were made aware earlier today of the horrific allegations against members of the 2002-03 Canadian National Junior Team,» the league statement reads. «The National Hockey League will look into the allegations and will respond appropriately."

Conservative MP John Nater laid into Hockey Canada. 'We're talking about Canada's elite national team and to hear allegations like this is just disgusting,' he said. He continued, declaring that he wants made public just how many complaints & how much 'quiet money' was spent over the years to quell these complaints.
