Montembeault, 25, was claimed off waiver by the Canadiens from the Florida Panthers in October 2021, just before the start of the 21-22 season. With Carey Price dealing with his knee recovery, Montembeault played the majority of Montreal's games during the season.
In 38 games, the Becancour (Quebec) native posted a record of 8-18-6 with a 3.77 GAA, an .891 save percentage and one shutout.
With the status of Carey Price unclear for next season, there's a very good chance the Canadiens start the campaign with Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault once again.
The Canadiens have agreed to terms with goaltender Samuel Montembeault on a two-year, one-way contract extension (2022-23 to 2023-24).#GoHabsGohttps://t.co/BWvQHUDocs Canadiens Montréal (@CanadiensMTL) July 18, 2022
