The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Saturday that they've signed 2022 first-round pick (21st overall), Owen Pickering, to a three-year, entry-level contract that will begin when he turns pro.
Pickering, 18, had a solid draft year in the Western Hockey League, playing for the Swift Current Broncos. In 62 games with the Broncos, the St. Adolphe (Manitoba) native had 33 points (nine goals, 23 assists), 39 penalty minutes and was a minus-29.
Because Swift Current didn't qualify for the WHL Playoffs, Pickering was named to Canada's U18 roster for the 2022 IIHF U18 World Championship in Germany back in April. He finished the tournament with two assists in four games as Canada lost to Finland in the quarter-finals.
