Anaheim Ducks forward Kiefer Sherwood has cleared waivers. The Ducks placed the 24-year-old on waivers early yesterday.

It doesn't seem overly surprising Sherwood went unclaimed. He has struggled to make much of an impact so far at the NHL level, posting just 13 points in 60 career games, which includes a 10-game stint this year with just one assist. The former Miami Redhawk signed with the Ducks as a free agent back in 2018 and has remained with the organization since. He has spent 37 games in the AHL this season, where he has put up 16 goals and 23 points in 37 games.

This move seems odd due to the fact there is no hockey being played with the COVID-19 outbreak, but it was made to save the Ducks some money. Sherwood's AHL salary is $70,000 compared to his NHL salary of $925,000. This allows the team to pay him a much smaller amount for the remaining months of the season. Unfortunately for Sherwood, there is nothing he is able to do about this, but one would think it may leave a bitter taste in his mouth for some time.
