It was long reported that the Blackhawks were seeking a top draft pick this year, an A-rated prospect, and an NHL-ready player. They ended up taking three draft picks, only one of which was a first rounder, and it's not even top-five. Only noteworthy because the NJ Devils were reportedly considering sending their 2nd overall pick in exchange, so between their initial price & potential packages on the table, this is an odd deal for Chicago.
While the deal is a good one for Ottawa, the deal is questionable for them too. Hardly a team in win-now mode, they just sent an array of draft picks for a player under team-control for one season. And they haven't shown a ton to convince anyone otherwise, so the acquisition of a player they have no guarantee of signing is puzzling. That said, they are receiving quite the player who could have a significant role in accelerating their rebuild:
