The Montreal Canadiens announced on Thursday that they've traded captain Shea Weber to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for forward Evgeny Dadonov. No salary was retained in the deal.

Weber, 36, has four years remaining on his contract with an average annual value of $7.8 million. The Sicamous native didn't play at all during the 2021-22 season and likely won't again in the NHL due to multiple injuries he is dealing with. He will provide Vegas with cap relief going forward after being placed on long-term injured reserve.

As for Dadonov, 33, he has one year remaining on his contract with an AAV of $5 million. Dadonov had a modified no-trade clause and it's unclear if he had to waive that in order to accommodate the move.
