MacKinnon gives fantastic answer when asked about taking on McDavid
You have to appreciate the laser focus of Nathan MacKinnon. As his Colorado Avalanche get set to take on the Edmonton Oilers in the third round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, all anyone can talk about is the matchup we're finally getting to see in the playoffs between him and Connor McDavid. Both are former first-round draft picks now leading their teams to deep playoff runs, and are arguably the best two hockey players in the entire world. As for MacKinnon's take on it, he insists he's not even thinking about it.
"Hopefully that gets more viewers and lowers escrow," said MacKinnon. "Other than that I don't care."
Escrow, by the way, is part of the revenue-sharing agreement between owners and players. The more money the league makes, the more players get vafk from escrow.
MacKinnon may or may not be entirely truthful here, but one thing is certain, the league absolutely does care. Or, it should. Not only will this be a big hit in both Edmonton and Denver, but this should be a matchup that every die hard fan in any market is watching. The speed in this series alone should be phenomenal. Not too mention the potential on both teams for huge goals that goes deeper than just those two players. This series has all the ingredients needed for a modern era classic.
