According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Vegas Golden Knights have interest in Paul Maurice and Rick Tocchet for the head coaching role after they fired Peter DeBoer on May 16th.

"Still early in their process, but there's some league-wide chatter the Golden Knights have interest in speaking with Paul Maurice & Rick Tocchet (among others) about their head coaching vacancy," Pagnotta said.

Maurice, 55, has spent parts of 24 seasons as a head coach in the National Hockey League with the Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes (two stints), Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Winnipeg Jets. He reached the Stanley Cup Final (2003) and Eastern Conference Final (2009) with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Western Conference Final with Winnipeg in 2018. Maurice stepped down as head coach of the Winnipeg Jets in December, saying that the team needed a new voice after being at the helm for parts of nine seasons.

As for Rick Tocchet, he most recently spent four seasons as the head coach of the Arizona Coyotes, which included a first round appearance in 2020 where they lost to the Colorado Avalanche. As an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017, Tocchet won back-to-back Stanley Cups.
