Halfway through the first period, New York Rangers' defenseman
Jacob Trouba laid a monster hit on Carolina Hurricanes' forward
Max Domi in the neutral zone.
Domi's teammate,
Steven Lorentz, jumped to his aid and fought Trouba. Lorentz received a 2 minute minor for instigating, a 10 minute misconduct, and a 5 minute major for fighting. Trouba got 5 minutes for fighting. All of this gave the Rangers a 2 minute powerplay following the hit. The Rangers took full advantage as
Frank Vatrano scored on the ensuing powerplay.
There was clear contact to the head in this hit, but Trouba was already committed to the hit. It is also important to note that Domi was falling just prior to the hit. Domi (5'10" 194lbs) is also smaller that Trouba (6'3" 208 lbs). Trouba has laid some significant hits this season, and Domi fell victim to a big one in the neutral zone.

Fortunately, Domi appeared to be ok after the hit. He was obviously unhappy about the head contact and made his case to the officials on the following stoppage.
