While Alex Ovechkin continues to chase Wayne Gretzky's record for most goals ever scored in the NHL, not everything has gone well off the ice for the NHL superstar this season. Questions were raised about Ovechkin's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin following Putin's decision to invade Ukraine in late February, while his wife and children spent months back home in Russia due to various concerns. While his wife and kids did attend a Washington Capitals game in early April, that was the last time Ovechkin saw his children. That changed recently as he returned home to Russia for the first time since the war broke out. His two sons, Ilya and Sergei, were clearly very happy with his return. You can see both videos, which were posted on Instagram by his wife, below.

The videos promote Alex Ovechkin's official Instagram account, which still shows a profile photo of him and Putin together in Russia. Despite that, Ovechkin has stated he wants "no more war."
Ovechkin is now in third place in the All-Time Goals Scored category for the NHL with 780. He sits behind only Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).
