According to TSN's Gord Miller, the International Ice Hockey Federation reportedly has support for the removal of Russia from upcoming tournaments as well as stripping them of hosting duties for a pair of events.

In a tweet on Sunday, Miller said, "Based on what I'm hearing, there is wide support for:

-immediate removal of Russian teams from all @IIHFHockey events for the rest of 2022, including the World Championship and the World Junior Championships scheduled for August and December.

-moving the 2023 WJC out of Russia"

The national hockey federations of Latvia and Switzerland have been the first to speak openly and issue statements calling for a suspension/ban of Russia and Belarus from upcoming IIHF events.

"Swiss Ice Hockey strongly condemns Russia's actions. Swiss Ice Hockey's thoughts are with the Ukrainian ice hockey family and everyone in Ukraine in this difficult situation. Together with other member associations, Swiss Ice Hockey has submitted an application to the international ice hockey federation IIHF, in which immediate and far-reaching consequences and sanctions against Russia and Belarus - which supports the Russian government in their actions - are required. The application to the IIHF Council calls for, among other things, the immediate exclusion of the Russian and Belarusian ice hockey federations as members of the IIHF and the withdrawal of the U20 World Championship in December 2022 in Novosibirsk and the A World Championship in May 2023 in St. Petersburg." The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation's statement said.

Latvian Ice Hockey Federation President Aigars Kalvītis said, "The Latvian Hockey Federation supports solidarity and the isolation of Russia from the international community in various ways, including from international sports.

I would like to inform you that the Latvian national hockey team will not play the two scheduled test matches in Riga with the Russian Olympic team and the Belarusian national hockey team before the 2022 World Cup in Finland.

The Latvian Hockey Federation, in a joint initiative with other world hockey federations, will appeal to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to suspend the Russian Hockey Federation and the Belarusian Hockey Federation from the International Ice Hockey Federation, while suspending all influential Russian and Belarusian officials , committees and other bodies.

Sports arenas are the scene for the promotion of fundamental human and democratic values around the world. Sovereign peace is inviolable and unquestionable: mutual opposition between countries must remain in sports arenas."

The International Ice Hockey Federation council is set to meet on Monday to discuss the fallout from Russia's invasion of Ukraine. With the statements from Latvia, Switzerland and likely others, there is a very good chance that they'll announce a suspension for Russia.
