The Calgary Flames were officially eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention on Monday night when the Montreal Canadiens picked up a point in an overtime loss to Edmonton. It'll be the first time Calgary has missed the playoffs since the 2017-18 season. The Flames now have four games left against Vancouver between Thursday and Wednesday, May 19th, all games which have no barring on the standings, other than for draft lottery purposes.

With the games not meaning much for the next seven days, the Flames have decided to shut down forward Sean Monahan for the remainder of the regular season with a hip injury. Monahan will have hip surgery next week, and the Flames expect that he will be good to go for training camp in mid-September.

In 50 games this season, Monahan tallied 28 points (10 G, 18 A), 10 penalty minutes, and was a -6.
