With the season under way, teams are beginning to understand what they have in terms of an on-ice product. Teams are also beginning to identify areas of weakness that a veteran presence may help to improve. One veteran that is surprisingly still available is Patrick Marleau.

After spending 19 seasons with the San Jose Sharks, Marleau opted for a change of scenery and a chance at grooming the next crop of young superstars and chasing a Stanley Cup with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Marleau spent 2 seasons with the Buds, scoring 84 points in 164 games.

Pierre LeBrun has tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that talks seem to be picking up with teams regarding Marleau's services. One of these teams is believed to be the San Jose Sharks. Wouldn't it be poetic to see Marleau leave to pursue opportunities in Toronto only to come back 3 seasons later to win a Cup with his long-time friend, Joe Thornton? If seeing two legends hoisting the cup after a career long pursuit doesn't give you goosebumps, you may be broken.

When asked about Marleau, Jumbo Joe had this to say; "He should be playing somewhere. I expect he'll be somewhere soon. He skates with us in the summer and he's still the best skater on the ice."

LeBrun added that there are a few other teams in the mix, but I know that everyone who can fall in love with a hockey story wants to see Marleau end his career as a San Jose Shark, raising the cup above his head alongside Thornton, where be belongs.
