With the Jack Eichel trade saga continuing with seemingly no end in sight, there's now word that the Buffalo Sabres are shifting away a bit from their original ask of draft picks and prospects. That ask makes perfect sense for a team in full rebuild mode, which the Sabres are. However, ESPN's Greg Wyshynski says it's now likely the final trade will include one or two veteran players as well.

According to Wyshynski, Buffalo has no plans to keep any veterans it might receive while trading Eichel. The plan would instead be to flip them for picks and/or prospects from another team as soon as possible.

Wyshynski made this statement as a response to a Tweet from The Athletic's Rick Carpiniello, who said earlier Monday that people should not be surprised to see Mika Zibanejad's name included if the New York Rangers make a trade for Eichel. Wyshynski pointed out that Zibanejad currently has a no movement clause that would make it tough for New York to deal him to Buffalo. However, if he knew he wouldn't be staying there, that might help get it done.

Given that Eichel makes $10 million per season and Zibanejad needs a new contract after this upcoming season that will likely be in that range, it could prove difficult for the Rangers to have both.
