Linus Ullmark buries Ilya Samsonov with new comments

During a recent interview, Boston Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark spoke about their playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Leafs' decisions with their goalies.

The Boston Bruins were eliminated in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Florida Panthers. Before being knocked out they beat the Toronto Maple Leafs. During the series, the Maple Leafs used both Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll in the net but primarily went with Ilya Samsonov in the crucial games.

Now that the series is done it has been discussed by many at great lengths. Fans and media seem to have placed the blame on coaching and an inability to produce from stars like Mitch Marner. However today a new interview with Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark has revealed what he thinks was the Maple Leafs downfall.

In a new interview with Linus Ullmark, the playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs was talked about. While discussing the series Linus Ullmark seems to make the assessment that the Maple Leafs allowing Ilya Samsonov to start more games than Joseph Woll led to the Maple Leafs demise.

Ilya Samsonov did eventually struggle enough to the point that Joseph Woll was re-inserted into the lineup. Unfortunately, he would get hurt for Game 7 and the Toronto Maple Leafs would come up just short. With the offseason now approaching it seems everyone is in agreement that the Maple Leafs' biggest area of need is goaltending.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have an opportunity to correct their mistakes from last season. Adding a competent backup goalie for Joseph Woll is a major step that needs to be taken for the team to move forward.
