Sad news for Shane Wright in Seattle: it is over
In the last few hours, the Seattle Kraken made a rather puzzling announcement regarding forward Shane Wright. Despite his considerable success during his recent call-up, scoring four goals and an assist in five games, the American team decided to send him back to the American League.
« The Seattle Kraken has reassigned forwards Shane Wright, Logan Morrison, and Ryan Winterton to the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the AHL. » - Seattle Kraken Obviously, since the Kraken's affiliate will participate in the playoffs, it's understandable why the organization preferred to send Shane Wright to the minors. However, the playoffs do not start until next weekend, so why not give him the opportunity to accumulate additional minutes in the NHL?
Some observers believe this move is motivated by the desire not to burn the first year of his contract, as he has played eight games this season and is approaching the threshold of nine games.
However, it must be said that the player himself must find this decision truly unfair, especially when he sees other players from his draft like Lane Hutson making their NHL debuts.
After all, Shane Wright was selected fourth overall in the 2022 draft and is having an excellent season in the AHL. There is no doubt that he would have greatly deserved this small reward from his general manager.
Now 20 years old, the center has been limited to two seasons of eight games each in the NHL, recording five goals and two assists in 16 games with the Seattle Kraken. However, he has shown significant progress this year in the American League, amassing 20 goals and 23 assists (43 points) in 56 games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
