Last year, this LA Kings prospect played through some serious injuries in order to stay in the lineup, and he has just revealed how debilitating they were.
Byfield is the Kings' Top Prospect they Can't Afford to Lose
Quinton Byfield was selected 2nd overall in the 2020 NHL entry draft by the LA Kings, and it is safe to say that he is one of their top prospects. Last year, he suffered some injuries but battled to stay in the lineup for 53 games. During that time, he was able to score 3 goals and 19 assists for 22 points.
Quinton Byfield's first NHL goal is a laser 🔥 @LAKings
Quinton Byfield played his first NHL game last night. He had 4 shots on goal and a 47% CF%.
Here's every puck touch and notable play from his #GoKingsGo debut:
Byfield spent some time between the Kings and their affiliate AHL team the Ontario Reign in an effort to rehabilitate and stay in game shape.
Byfield Reveals The Extent Of Writst Injuries in Recent Interview
In a recent interview with The Hockey News, Byfield revealed the extent of his injuries and just how bad they were during the season.
But, more importantly, Byfield revealed to THN that he played almost all of last season with two sprained wrists.
"I only got three goals last year, that's definitely what everyone is talking about," said Byfield. "But you don't realize what issues and stuff people are dealing with.
You know, second game of the year I sprained my wrist and the whole year didn't miss any time (from that injury) and same with the other wrist. So, I couldn't really feel my hands out there the whole year."
While Byfield is definitely one tough player, it is unfortunate that he had to battle such a tough injury in order to stay in the lineup. His performance last year was clearly a battle, and he should be poised to have a stellar upcoming season.
