The Chicago Blackhawks future got a whole lot brighter this summer, and now, many expect their top pick to take over the captaincy sooner, rather than later, akin to what we saw with Connor McDavid in Edmonton.
Another hot candidate
However, Bedard isn't the only one looking to become Blackhawks Captain, as it has been revealed that veteran defenseman Seth Jones has expressed his interest in the role.
Jones has been with the Blackhawks for two seasons now, tallying 88 points over that time while missing just 14 games, and while his play hasn't quite lived up to the massive contract he signed, he's a key piece for this organization.
Solid options
Beyond Bedard and Jones, the Blackhawks have very few viable options, as there are no young players with enough experience or any veterans locked down to long-term deals, so ultimately, it appears it's a two horse race now.
There's a good chance that Chicago allow Bedard to play out his rookie year before naming him captain ahead of the 2024-25 season, but if the team need to name a captain ahead of this season, it would be a complete toss up between two very different but talented players.
