At last season's trade deadline, the Edmonton Oilers showed a lot of interest in Karlsson. They were willing to part ways with good assets to get him, but the Sharks were too greedy.
Information reported by Elliotte Friedman confirms that theory.
"Elliotte Friedman believes the San Jose Sharks originally asked the Edmonton Oilers for 'multiple first round picks' when they were interested in Erik Karlsson last season.
Obviously, the Oilers didn't want to accommodate and decided to acquire Mattias Ekholm instead, and in the end, the Sharks had to settle for a bit less than their original asking price." - The Mug NHL
Too Much for the Oilers
While we don't really know the number of first-round picks the Sharks asked for, we can guess it's a lot. At least, it was enough to make the Oilers lean towards Mattias Ekholm instead.
Do you think the Sharks got a fair return for Karlsson?
