The Golden Knights may have to move on from one of their best defensemen due to cap struggles.

The Golden Knights Cap Struggles

Every championship team is heavily taxed after winning it all. We have already seen the Golden Knights be forced to move Reilly Smith for only picks as they knew they could not handle his cap hit.

Now, with a cap hit of $87,648,317 in a league with a maximum of $83.5 million, the Golden Knights may be forced to move on from top defenseman Alec Martinez.

Martinez Hits The Trade Block

A recent report from Jesse Granger of the Athletic eludes to the Golden Knights shopping Martinez to clear out his $5.25 million contract.

While Martinez is not much of a point-getter, he provides an invaluable service in his own zone by ensuring that other teams' top players do not have much of a chance to score.

With one year of his deal left, it would be quite palatable for any team willing to take a chance on him to give up a solid package to get Martinez.
