We have so e incredibly sad news to share with you all this morning. We've just learned that a member of Great Britain's Olympic Ice Hockey team passed away last night.
Mike Hammond, who was a crucial member of GB's ice hockey team over the last few years, has tragically passed away in a car accident that took place in Canada.
"💙 Great Britain ice hockey and IHUK are devastated that forward Mike Hammond has passed away. Hammond died last night in a car accident in Canada. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all team-mates. RIP Hammy - we will never forget you."
Hammond was just 33 years of age but had accomplished so much in his career. He held dual citizenship between Canada and the U.K. but chose to side with the U.K. Mike was a clutch player for the British national team, and his life was cut short far too soon.
Fans React to Hammond's Passing
Fans were understandably devastated by the news of Hammond's passing, as he'd played such a large role in growing the game of hockey in the U.K.
There was no shortage of support from Hammond's many fans, who expressed their condolences to his friends and family. We hope that Hammond can rest easy now and that his family can find peace.
