Canadian hub city comes one step closer following Trudeau's statements
On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared that the Canadian government won't stop the NHL from having one of its hub cities there.
The comments came in connection to the announcement of an extension of border restrictions for non-essential travel between USA and Canada. According to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet however, players have already been crossing the border in both directions since the beginning of Phase 2 of the NHL's reopening plan.
With today's news that the Canada/U.S. border will remain closed to non-essential travel through July 21, it's important to note that this won't affect NHL plans on a restart.

Trudeau said he was comfortable with the NHL moving forward with its plans: "We have indicated that we are comfortable with moving forward on an NHL hub in one of three Canadian cities that are asking for it," he said. "Obviously, the decision needs to be made by the NHL and the cities and provinces in the jurisdiction. Canada is open to it as long as it is OK by the local health authorities.”
There has already been rumours of Las Vegas being everything but announced as one of the hub cities, and the league was ideally looking for a Canadian co-runner of the playoffs. With Trudeau's announcements, the league has reportedly been able to narrow it down to ten cities, including Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver.
