Goaltender Vasili Demchenko, who recently signed on for next season with the Montreal Canadiens, told Russian outlet Sport-Express that he is prepared for any assignment his new team might give him, even if it means playing in the ECHL.

"When we discussed the issue with the representatives of the club, they told me that it is even possible to switch to ECHL. It is clear that everything will depend on me, but I am ready for anything," Demchenko said.

Demchenko, who has been playing in the KHL since the 2012-13 season, was asked whether he was worried about the loss of money should be be assigned to the AHL or ECHL once he arrives in North America.

"I earned money in Russia, so if I miss, I won't feel it. However, I have no need to throw money [around] right and left. So this is also, I think, not a problem."

The 26-year-old had established himself as a solid goaltender in Russia, playing parts of seven seasons with Chelyabinsk Traktor before moving on to Magnitogorsk Metallurg part way through 2019-20. He was nominated for Best Goaltender in the League in 2018-19 before taking a step back last season, Demchenko addressed that in the interview.

"...sometimes there were some strange things. Everything goes fine, then some stupid shot, rebound, the puck in the goal. You do not understand how all this happened. I am going to Canada to reboot."
