Panthers sign forward Cole Schwindt to entry-level contract
Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon announced Wednesday afternoon that the team has agreed to terms with forward Cole Schwindt on a three-year, entry-level deal.
Schwindt was in the midst of his third season in the OHL with the Mississauga Steelheads before the season was cancelled because of COVID-19. In 57 games this year, he had 28 goals and 43 assists. The 18-year-old has put up a total of 138 points (55-83-138) in 191 regular season games with the Steelheads.
“Cole is a talented and responsible two-way player who had an excellent season playing a key role with Mississauga,” Tallon said. “He possesses great versatility, size and character and we are excited about his continued development with the Panthers.”
Schwindt was selected by the Panthers in the third round (81st) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Kitchener Ontario native play one more season of junior hockey, given the fact he is still just 18 years old.
