In only his second year in the league, Luka Doncic has proven himself to be a top-tier NBA player. Even tough he was only the third pick in his draft after Deandre Ayton (1st, Phoenix Suns) and Marvin Bagley III (2nd, Sacramento Kings), he's shown nobody except maybe Trae Young will ever be as good as he already is. The expectations were high for him, he successfully exceeded all of them with ease. This year, the Slovenian athlete was cumulating 28.7 points per game with 9.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists. Those are better stats than a lot of superstars in the league.

In points, he was beating LeBron "The King" James (25.7), Kyrie Irving (27.4), Anthony Davis (26.7), Kawhi Leonard (26.9) and Karl-Anthony Towns (26.5). All of them are seen as scorers, they may have better percentages from the field but the polyvalency of Luka's game and his IQ will help him improve his shoot takes. At some point, he'll stop being a volume shooter and will still make the same amount of points.

As of the playmaking, Chris Paul (6.6), Russel Westbrook (7), James Harden (7.4), Ben Simmons (8.2) and Damian Lillard (7.8) weren't near the effectiveness of Doncic and his passing ability. A lot of these statistics are on the teammates who need to drain the shots. Doncic isn't really gifted with scorers on his team, he does have Kristaps Porzingis who can shoot from pretty much anywhere as a 7 footer. Plus, Seth Curry was having a great season from the three but apart these two, I'd say with confidence everybody named had a better offensive squad with them.

For the rebounds, I see it a lot like Westbrook. He isn't the biggest on the field or as fast as Russ, but the Mavericks need him with the ball quick for a counter attack. Sometimes, he'll have free rebounds because the big men on the field see there is no danger of offensive rebounds for the other team and they let Luka have it for the sake of the offense. In this case, it makes it way less impressive, but Doncic was still out-rebounding LaMarcus Aldridge (7.4), LeBron James (7.9), Pascal Siakam (7.5), Russel Westrbook (8) and Montrezl Harrell (7.1).

I believe it is safe to say the Dallas Mavericks have found their franchise player in Doncic. At only 21 years old, he's accomplished a lot and will continue to do so. This year, he was playing like at least a top 10 player and was leading the Mavericks to a playoff run for the first time since 2016.
