Following an off-season where the Yankees made the biggest acquisition in history signing pitcher Gerrit Cole, it is now one of their minor leaguers with an un-wanted acquisition. ESPN's Jeff Passan announced Sunday that a Yankee minor leaguer was the first to contract a confirmed case of the COVID-19 that has shut down the sporting world .

The unnamed player has been quarantined since Friday after complaining of a fever. A Yankee spokesperson said that the player had only attended minor league camp, and did not come into contact with any players or staff from the major league team.

The Yankees plan to test at least some other minor leaguers for the virus, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The Yankees are going the full mile to ensure that no other players contract the virus.

The MLB shutdown Thursday following the NBA's sudden suspension as a result of a positive test from one of its players. Now with the Yankees and the MLB having their first confirmed case of the Corona Virus, the only game baseball can play is the waiting one.
