Former Montreal Canadiens captain Shea Weber sent a message to fans on Friday, less than 24 hours after being dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights for Evgeny Dadonov.
Part of Weber's message read, "Growing up playing hockey in Canada, it's every kid's dream to play in the NHL. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have not only done that, but to have had a chance to do so for a Canadian team and a member of the Original 6.
Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined playing for let alone being named captain of the Montreal Canadiens. Pulling on that legendary jersey every night was one of the greatest honours of my career and it's something I appreciated every chance I got."
Weber, 36, didn't play during the 2021-22 season due to multiple injuries and is not expected to resume his NHL career. He was acquired by the Canadiens in 2016 in exchange for P.K. Subban.
In five seasons with the Canadiens, Weber played in 275 career games recording 146 points (58 goals, 88 assists), 146 penalty minutes and was a plus-31. Last summer, Weber captained the Canadiens to their first Stanley Cup Final since 1993.
