After missing last year's Stanley Cup Final due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, Finnish broadcaster and father to Artturi Lehkonen, Ismo, made the trek to North America to cover the series in-person.

"It's like a dream, it's a hell of a dream," Ismo Lehkonen said. "Last season, I didn't have a chance to show up there. I wanted to, but with COVID restrictions, it wasn't easy to travel. Now, finally, I'm here. A second chance."

It came down to the wire on trade deadline day as Artturi Lehkonen was dealt from the Canadiens to Colorado in exchange for a second-round pick in 2024 and defenceman Justin Barron. Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes said that Avalanche GM Joe Sakic called him regularly leading up to deadline day, with the former saying 'no' to every proposal, until he got a package that would benefit the Habs.

"Joe just checked in pretty regularly on it. I was almost embarrassed because I kept saying 'No.' Hughes said.

Lehkonen, 26, has played a key role in helping his team reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2021 and this year. Last year in overtime in Game 6 of the third round, Lehkonen scored as Montreal advanced to their first Stanley Cup Final since 1993. Flash forward to 2022 and Lehkonen did it once again, scoring in overtime of Game 4 against Edmonton in the Western Conference Final as the Avalanche moved on to their first SCF since 2001.

The Piikkio native is happy to have his dad around this year and is looking forward to spending some time with him.

"I'll probably get dinner with him," Artturi Lehkonen said. "Yeah it's pretty fun. He gets to hang around here again in the Stanley Cup Final. I know he's been to a few of these and it's fun."

Artturi Lehkonen and the Colorado Avalanche will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Final tonight at 8 p.m. ET/6 p.m. local.
