NHL reportedly makes decision on Evander Kane

Earlier this month, the San Jose Sharks placed Evander Kane on unconditional waivers and bought out his contract due to violating the American Hockey League's COVID-19 protocol.

While in the AHL, Kane either tested positive for COVID-19 or was a close contact and was required to isolate at his home as per their protocols. Instead, Kane reportedly took a trip up to Vancouver on December 27th, which led to him being bought out and an investigation by the National Hockey League.

According to Irfaan Gaffar, Kane is not expected to receive any from the NHL and he'll be heading to Edmonton to sign with the Oilers.

"Believe there will not be any further discipline for Evander Kane from the NHL. He will be heading to Edmonton to sign with the Oilers. Announcement from league and team could come as early as today. Likely tomorrow. @TimCPeel20 was on it earlier." Gaffar said.

ESPN's Emily Kaplan says that Kane has been skating in Vancouver, waiting for the league to finish their investigation. She added, If he isn't suspended, Kane could play as soon as this weekend.

"Evander Kane has been skating in Vancouver as he waits for NHL's investigation.

"Given he's not suspended, Kane is ready to sign ASAP & could play as soon as this weekend. He's down to two finalists, but multiple sources tell ESPN they'll be shocked if Kane doesn't sign in Edmonton." Kaplan said.

Kane, 30, appeared in five games for San Jose's AHL affiliate this season following his suspension from the NHL for using a fake COVID-19 pass. In those five games, Kane put up eight points (two goals, six assists), two penalty minutes, and was a plus-three.
