USA HOCKEY NAMES NEW HEAD COACH AND GENERAL MANAGER FOR 2022 OLYMPICS

DEC 27, 2021  (18H10)      COOPER GODIN
Nearly one week ago, the National Hockey League announced that they wouldn't be sending players to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China due to COVID-19 concerns.

Many of the participating nations have been focusing on their Plan B rosters with the intent on releasing those rosters in the coming weeks. Hockey Canada late last week and now USA Hockey have named new coaching staffs as well as a new general manager.

USA Hockey announced on Monday that former New York Rangers bench boss David Quinn will be the teams head coach, while former Florida Panthers goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck will serve as their general manager.

Prior to the NHL's announcement, David Quinn was set to be an assistant coach with Pittsburgh Penguins' Mike Sullivan as head coach, and John Vanbiesbrouck was apart of Bill Guerin and Chris Drury's management group.

"John and David have been involved in our 2022 Olympic process and are well-positioned to transition into their new roles," said Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey. "With the NHL deciding not to participate in the Olympics, we're fortunate to have the significant experience they bring in helping form and guide our men's Olympic team."

The United States will be in Group A at the 2022 Olympics where they'll face China on February 10th, Canada on February 12th and Germany on February 13th.
