BLUES ASSIGN TEN-TIME 20+ GOAL SCORER TO THE AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE

JAN 26, 2022  (14H15)      COOPER GODIN
For the first time in 14 years, veteran forward James Neal will play in the American Hockey League.

St. Louis Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong announced on Wednesday afternoon that they've assigned James Neal to the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League.

The 34-year-old Whitby, Ontario native was signed by the Blues to a professional tryout contract (PTO) prior to training camp. From there, he was signed to a one-year contract worth $750,000. In 19 games this season, Neal has four points (two goals, two assists), no penalty minutes and is a minus-one.

The last time Neal appeared in the AHL was during the 2008-09 season as a member of the Manitoba Moose. In five games that season, Neal had five points (four goals, one assist).

Neal's debut with Springfield could come as early as Wednesday night when they visit the Hartford Wolf Pack.
