Toronto Maple Leafs Kasperi Kapanen is putting the blame squarely on himself for his terrible decision Saturday night to throw a broken stick towards Montreal's Jeff Petry. The incident led to a penalty shot for Petry, and the game tying goal as the Habs went on to complete a 4-1 comeback against the Maple Leafs, winning the game 6-5 in a shootout.

According to TSN reporter Kristen Shilton, Kapanen takes full responsibility for the stick throwing incident, adding it was a moment of frustration he didn't know would result in a penalty shot. He also admitted his game hasn't been there to start the season and knows he has to be better. You can view the stick-throwing and Petry's penalty shot below.

Following Petry's goal, Kapanen was on the receiving end of a chirp from Max Domi that went viral on social media. Domi leaned over the boards to look directly at Kapanen on the Toronto bench and shouted "Atta boy Kapanen, you f------ idiot!" You can view that below.

As for the game overall, Auston Matthews had this to say: “Mentally we just weren't there, we made mistakes and they capitalized on them."
