Heading into the 2021-22 season, much was made about the fact that Philadelphia Flyers longtime captain Claude Giroux is set to become an unrestricted free agent at seasons end.

The thought was that it would be a wait and see approach between the two parties, both of whom believed the team would be improved in 2021-22. Unfortunately, a tough stretch which has seen them go just 2-6-2 in their last 10 games has dropped them well out of the current playoff picture. Despite this however, Giroux has no intentions of waiving the no-movement clause in his contract.

«I'm not worried about that right now,» Giroux said on Friday. «I'm just worried about games coming up. We're in a hole right now and thinking about that stuff is not going to help the team get out of this. I've got a lot of confidence in this group."

«We know in our locker room that we can turn this around. Next two games coming up here at home, that's going to be huge for us. We're playing good teams. We've got to come out and play hard and give ourselves a chance to win here.»

He certainly isn't lying when saying they are playing some good teams coming up. Their next two games are a back-to-back set against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche, two of the best rosters in the league. They then play the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday before taking on another extremely tough opponent in the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday. As for Giroux, he is doing everything he can, as his 18 points in 21 contests lead the Flyers roster.
