CANADIENS SEASON GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE ON THURSDAY NIGHT

DEC 2, 2021  (22H54)      COOPER GODIN
It was a night to forget for the Montreal Canadiens as they fell 4-1 to the Colorado Avalanche. As the final seconds counted down, the fans attending the Bell Centre booed the team off the ice, something that has become a common theme this season.

Earlier in the day, Brendan Gallagher and Sami Niku entered the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. Upon further testing, both players produced a positive result, meaning they will be out of action and must quarantine for the next ten days.

Then during the game, forward Josh Anderson was shoved from behind by Colorado Avlanche defenceman Kurtis MacDermid. Anderson left the game and did not return. Following the game, head coach Dominique Ducharme announced that Anderson would miss two-to-four weeks with an upper-body injury and that Laurent Dauphin has been called up from the AHL's Laval Rocket.

Also during the game, defenceman Alexander Romanov collided with Ryan Poehling and Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar. Romanov was left bloodied and went to the locker room, returning a short while later with a full-cage on. After the game, Romanov told reporters that he broke his nose.

Then came the most embarrassing part of the entire night. During the third period, a fan threw a Canadiens jersey and hat onto the ice.

Both head coach Dominique Ducharme and forward Nick Suzuki commented on the jersey throwing incident in their post-game media availabilities.

"Not a good feeling for the players it's tough to get booed but the fans are used to productive teams and I can see why they're angry." Suzuki said. He added that he saw a number four on the jersey and thought that it might be one of his.

Ducharme said, "No comment," then added, "I love that jersey. I'm proud of it."

The Canadiens will be back in action at home on Saturday night against the Nashville Predators. Puck drop is set for 7pm ET on CityTV and TVA Sports.
