Speaking on The Jeff Marek Show on Thursday morning, Elliotte Friedman was asked about potential destinations for Montreal Canadiens defenceman Ben Chiarot, and listed one specific team that may be a suitor.

«The team that really sticks out to me that should probably be feeling very good about itself thinking about what it could do is a team like Edmonton,» Friedman said.

Chiarot, 30, is currently in his third season with the Habs and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. In 18 games on the year he has four goals and five points while averaging just over 23 minutes in ice time per game. When asked by Marek general manager Marc Bergevin could potentially land a first-rounder him in a trade, Friedman said the following.

«Oh, for sure I think there is. I think you absolutely could. Ben Chiarot's a good playerHe's playoff tested, he's not a high maintenance guy.»

Friedman also went on to say that the Canadiens may even consider retaining some of his $3.5 million cap hit to help bring his trade value up even more. If the Oilers were to bring him in, he would likely slot in behind Darnell Nurse on the left side, bumping Duncan Keith into a third pairing role which may be more suitable for him at this time in his career.
