Vancouver's defence could be getting a boost very soon

After missing all of pre-season and training camp due to personal reasons, and being granted a leave of absence, Vancouver Canucks defenceman Travis Hamonic is reportedly close to returning to the club.

Hamonic, 31, was placed on waivers at the start of the 2021-22 season with the intent to send him to the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League. Just over a week ago, Canucks general manager Jim Benning announced that both the team and Hamonic agreed to a temporary leave of absence to work through his personal matters.

The St. Malo, Manitoba native joined the Canucks just prior to the 2020-21 season. In 38 games for the Canucks, Hamonic had ten points (three goals, seven assists), 39 penalty minutes, and was a minus-three.


Vancouver will play their first home game of the season on Tuesday night after starting with a six-game road trip. The Canucks currently have a record of 3-2-1 and could use the services of Travis Hamonic as soon as possible.
