Former Montreal Canadien David Desharnais has signed a one-year contract extension with Swiss club Fribourg-Gotteron. Desharnais was set to become a free agent next summer, but now he'll be under contract until after the 2022-23 NL season.
The Laurier-Station, Quebec native spent parts of nine seasons in the NHL, eight and a half with the Montreal Canadiens where he tallied 250 points (79 G, 171 A) in 435 games.
After spending the 2017-18 season with the New York Rangers, Desharnais went over to Russia to play in the KHL. Following his brief one-year stint in Russia, the 35-year-old headed to Switzerland to play for Fribourg-Gotteron.
In 99 career games for Fribourg-Gotteron, Desharnais has 81 points (33 G, 48 A), 48 penalty minutes, and is a plus-one.
