MALKIN BACK ON SKATES FOR FIRST TIME SINCE SURGERY

OCT 18, 2021  (12H41)      COLTON PANKIW
The Pittsburgh Penguins were dealt a tough blow before their 2021-22 season began, as both Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby had to undergo surgery, meaning they were not ready for the start of the campaign and are still expected to miss some time.

Thankfully for Penguins fans, Malkin appears to be making progress in his recovery from knee surgery, as he was spotted skating prior to his team's practice on Monday. The 35-year-old was on the ice in a full track suit in what is believed to be his first time skating since the surgery. Though he never appeared to exert himself, it was still a positive sign for him as he continues his recovery.

The 2020-21 season was the first of Malkin's career where he didn't look like his usual superstar self. In 33 games he had eight goals and 28 points, which certainly aren't bad totals, but are a far cry from the numbers we are used to seeing from him. While it is far too soon to suggest he is on the decline, you have to wonder if all the injuries he's suffered over the years are beginning to take their toll on him.
