During the second intermission of Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the Colorado Avalanche called the Buffalo Sabres about
Jack Eichel. The Avalanche were curious if the Sabres would be willing to retain any of Eichel's salary for the remaining five years of his contract, but the answer was no.
That is reportedly being the hold up in any
Jack Eichel trade according to Elliotte Friedman. The Sabres are unwilling to retain any of his $10 million salary.
"One of the biggest hurdles right now to getting a
Jack Eichel trade done is that the Sabres do not want to retain any salary," Friedman said.
He added, "Now, they are willing to talk about taking contracts back to facilitate a deal, but it's still difficult with so many teams close to the cap and also Eichel still having four more years at $10 million a season left on his salary."

Eichel, 24, is currently suffering from a herniated disk in his neck, and his camp and the Sabres don't see eye to eye on a treatment plan. That led to Eichel reportedly requesting a trade, and then at the start of training camp, he was stripped of the captaincy.
