JOSH HO-SANG TALKS ABOUT HIS OPPORTUNITY IN TORONTO AND NOT TAKING ANYTHING FOR GRANTED

SEP 23, 2021  (17H43)      MIKE ARMENTI
Josh Ho-Sang bet on himself this offseason, signing a professional try-out with his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs, and with training camp upon us, if Ho-Sang wants to parlay his try-out into an NHL contract, it's time to get to work.

We have heard numerous times over the years about Ho-Sang's "attitude issues" during his time in the New York Islanders' system, but early into Leafs training camp, Ho-Sang appears to not be taking his opportunity for granted.

On Thursday, Ho-Sang briefly spoke with the media, stating that he would gladly do whatever it takes - start anywhere within the organization - if it meant that he could eventually wear the Maple Leaf crest.

«I'd start in the ECHL. I don't have a preference. I'm not entitled by any means. I don't think I deserve anything.»

Perhaps Ho-Sang is finally beginning to realize that the team comes before the individual in the NHL - or maybe what many had perceived as an attitude issue was simply a difference of opinion in Long Island. Maybe Ho-Sang just felt like he had a lot to offer and believed in his skills, but chose to try to promote himself vocally a little too much.

Ho-Sang has played just 53 games in the NHL after being drafted in the first round, 28th overall back in 2014, amassing 24 points along the way.

This opportunity in Toronto could be just what the 25-year-old needs to finally get his shot at being a full-time NHLer. However, the competition will be stiff and Ho-Sang will need to bring it in camp and in the pre-season to show that the NHL is where he ultimately belongs.
