Former NHLer kicks opposing defender after a questionable hit in the KHL

We've all seen players take exception to a questionable hit and retaliate out of frustration - but rarely does a hockey player deliver a kick to a player while grounded.

On Wednesday, that's exactly what happened during a KHL match between Novosibirsk Sibir and Magnitogorsk Metallurg after Sibir defender Nikita Yefremov took Metallurg's Nikolay Goldobin into the endboards hard with a stiff check in the numbers.

After both players collided against the boards, a fuming Goldobin delivered a kick with the shin across the stomach of Yefremov, who got up and attempted to make his way back into the play.

Obviously, it goes without saying that players should know better than to kick an opponent, especially due to the fact that one slip can cause a serious laceration with a skate blade.

Goldobin didn't exactly get away with one here, as he was slapped with a 5-minute major and a 20-minute misconduct on the play, but he certainly could have received much worse.

Goldobin is a former NHLer, who played 125 games split between the San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks between 2016-2020.
