Former professional soccer goalie Petr Cech has decided to take another crack at hockey after signing with the Guildford Phoenix for the 2021-2022 season.
Cech most recently appeared in the 2019-20 season, playing 6 games. He posted a .934 save percentage along with 2 shutouts also with Guildford.
The Guildford Phoenix are a semi-professional club playing in the fourth and lowest tier of the British ice hockey system. Cech will likely only play part-time for them as he did in 2019-20. Cech's home country is in the Czech Republic where soccer is not the top sport in the nation, but ice hockey actually is, so it is not surprising to see the 39-year-old going for some good old stick and puck. Cech is argued, alongside Peter Schmeichel, to be the greatest goalkeeper in Premier League history.
